S3 System
The S3 Storytelling System
The MDS stresses the use of a basic S3 system to assist in writing stories. All the Paths of Power modules will utilize the S3 system and the MDS core book will include a guide for new Storytellers.
What does S3 stand for?
Story, Scene, Situation. Importantly, this sets a standard for Adventure Point payout. Adventure Points are to be utilized to advance character traits. A story is rated by the complexity of its scenes and upon completion delivers a mass payout of Adventure Points and likewise, each Scene is rated for a Adventure Point pay out based on the challenges and contests planned within. A big factor in the S3 system is to give the players agency to determine how they want to navigate a Scene.
Whether the player group opts to infiltrate and avoid combat through stealth, rely on guile and wit to talk their way through, or... just... kill everything, the group will get a payout based on completion with bonuses for discoveries
The MDS does its best to give players the capability to play the way they wish to and avoids a complication tied to the loss of Adventure Points, should the enemies be circumvented, rather than destroyed whole sale.
This all may seem a tad bit elementary to seasoned writers, but our goal is to spread knowledge and teach new storytellers how to bridge the gap between their imagination to the tabletop, without abusing anyone with an insane learning curve. Should anyone want to create their own standalone story, we at Hypermancy will provide the foundation to do your own thing. Meanwhile, Paths of Power will feature modules ready to play, built from the S3 system with the intention of teaching the Magnitude Dice System.
✨ Traits, Talents & Abilities Define Action
Traits set the dice pools that characters utilize to impact every scene, while Talents shape the ease with which you engage Situations. Abilities bring the action. Imagination is the limit when you want to engage in combat, commit impossible feats, achieve invulnerability, psychic manipulation and so much more. Through the expenditures of power pools generated from Power Factors
Power Factors
Your characters in Paths of Power will utilize Power Factors to fuel abilities and action:
- Focus – Fuels extraordinary mundane feats.
- Resonance – Determines spiritual connection with the environment.
- Phase – Indicates soul alignment with the body, generating powerful Ki.
- Psyche – Reflects resistance to psychic manipulation and ability to influence others.
- Charge – Enhances cyborgs beyond all limitations.
🛠 Ongoing Development
This system is evolving. As alpha testing begins, Hypermancy Studios will release supporting materials, eventually including free digital apps, adventures modules, and content toolkits. Be part of this next-level TTRPG movement from the beginning.
Special closed tests will give our playtesters the chance to play through metaplot situations that will be featured upon the First Edition release.
