Magnitude Dice System
Character Creation
The Magnitude Dice System seeks to allow players to maintain agency over the creation of your own characters. This means that there is no template that dictates exactly how a character must be built with constrictions on creativity and concept.
Instead, a profession and role system are utilized to help guide choices, along with lineage/species and background selections. Along the way you choose what tier different traits belong within and that will determine how many Skill Points are granted to Talents within those traits.
Quick Start
- Professional & Role: What you do defines your first and second tier Traits.
- Lineage or Species: Determines innate abilities and advantages or disadvantages.
- Background: Defines third tier Traits.
- Power Factors: Power Factors generate the pools of points necessary to activate special abilities.
- Traits and Talents: Set initial pools (e.g., Focus, Resonance, Phase, Psyche, Charge).
- Kit & Contacts: Starting gear, bases, homes, vehicles and contacts.
- Finalize: Name, look, bonds, and agenda.
Step 1 — Profession & Role
Define a professional title and role in relation to the profession. The role and profession will help guide your choice of traits and talents.
Your role will define your primary Trait and your profession will define your secondary Traits.
Step 2 — Lineage or Species
Choosing a lineage or species will determine innate abilities, as well as, advantages and disadvantages.
Step 3 — Choose a Background
Select three Third Tier talents that support your concept. Aside from the first and second tier, these are the traits your character has relied on the most to get by in life.
Step 4 — Power Factors
Choose your Primary and Secondary Power Factors.
- Focus This is a measure of how focused your character is during a Scene. The more things they are concentrating on, the lower the focus drops.
- Psyche Determines psychic offensive and defensive capability a character has.
- Resonance Defines how in sync your character is with the energies of the environment. This is used to draw in Shikai or Mana energies to fuel magic.
- Phase This Power Factor represents your character's balance between body and soul. The more in phase these two aspects are, the more internal energy is generated.
- Charge This is under development, but Charge Systems replace either Resonance or Phase. This is a quantum biological technology that merges with a biological entity. It draws energy from whichever Power Factor it replaces, changing the Talent tree entirely.
Step 5 — Traits and Talents
It is now time to assign points to Talents. Your choice in placing certain traits on primary, secondary and tertiary tiers will determine how many points may be distributed to talents within those tiers.
Step 6 — Kit & Contacts
Add starting gear, contacts, and any vehicles, bases, or homes.
Step 7 — Finishing Touches
- Name, look, quirks
- Motivating agenda and short-term goal
- Advancement plan (what you want to unlock next)
This is still under development. Internal playtests are being conducted to refine and improve the system.
Soon closed public alpha testing will begin. After that pdf's will be made available for open beta testing. Please reach out with questions or suggestions about the material presented or the process.
